Photo of Jeni SchraishuhnJeni Schraishuhn is a Colorado Registered Midwife who has been practicing midwifery for over 27 years and has attended over 1000 births. She has 3 children of her own, all of whom were born at home. Along with midwifery skills she has a BS and Med Lab Tech degree from Cornell University and is a Master Herbalist, Certified applied Kinesiologist, Iridologist, Aromatherapist and Natural Health Practitioner. It is her desire to provide optimum care by incorporating her alternative therapies with traditional midwifery.

Jeni started pursuing a career in midwifery in 1977 after accidentally attending a couple planning a homebirth whose own midwife didn't make the delivery. Jeni stepped in and assisted the father in the delivery of a beautiful baby girl just as the sun rose over the horizon. "The experience changed my life," she says, and soon decided not to return to Cornell where she had been studying to be a veterinarian. Instead she joined the group of aspiring midwives in Boulder County who self-taught themselves using the Yale Nurse-Midwifery curriculum. While studying, she attended births as a coach, photographer, babysitter for sibling(s), and assistant to the midwives. After several years of study she took on her own clients and worked towards making her midwifery practice more complete by studying herbs and other methods of natural healing. She was also instrumental in the passing of the Midwifery Practice act of Colorado in 1993, as she felt the profession had long deserved the right to be recognized as a legal and regulated profession.

After over a quarter of a century, Jeni is still devoted to providing mothers, families, and babies education, care, and information to enhance this life-changing experience. "When we decide to work together as client and midwife(s), neither of us is sure where we will end up; but the journey is filled with growth, trust, learning and a deep sense of (self) awareness - and that changes each of us beyond measure."

In addition to her skills as a midwife, Jeni uses many other methods of healthcare in her practice, including:
